UMD Is Not Next

March 4, 2008

UMD picture i stole from images googleAs most of you may know, HD DVDs have been sent to the graveyard of media formats. Not everyone owns a High-Definition Television and not many want to spend $400, slightly less, or more on a Blu-Ray disc player. But, this entry is not about any of that. This is about the UMD media format when pushed to it’s limits for movies.

UMDs are not the most popular media format. Mainly, this is due to the own device that can play this is the Playstation Portable. You may know the Playstation Portable as the PSP. Another reason is because UMDs are not very popular is because the PSP is the least popular handheld video game console in the market today. Nintendo has beaten Sony, just like they beat Atari and Sega. Many PSP owners do not buy UMD Movies because not many movie studios (or whatever you want to call them) are supporting them. Another reason comes from a review I read from Amazon.com on the product, “Kill Bill – Volume 1 [UMD for PSP]“. “How can a movie that is available on DVD with 4x the resolution of a UMD, extra content, and Dolby Digital & DTS 5.1 surround sound be offered for twice the price on a 1/4 resolution, stereo, no frills disc?”.  Although Playstation 3s can play UMD Movies, that’s just ridiculous. There’s DVDs for that. Enough said.

To sum up on the UMD Movies entry, if you own a PSP or just feel like playing a UMD movie on your Television when theres DVDs, only buy movies if there’s a movie available on the UMD format that you like and if you want to have a movie to watch on the road. I do want to mention that there are portable DVD Players you can buy.

HD DVD is Gone

March 3, 2008

I apologize for the lack of posting. I really had nothing to talk about and I just found things all together to be boring. But, I have some good news. I am back from just blogging on Xanga about my life. Also, I will blog when ever I feel like it. A schedule will probably be coming soon. The first entry in months is about the wonderful HD DVD format.

You may know VHS as the now dead format. Some may also know Betamax and Laserdiscs as the now dead format. It depends on who you were back in the good old 90s and older. Don’t start assuming I will get into the death of DVDs. DVDs are still around and are probably going to stay for a long time. If that’s true, what’s the big deal about HD DVDs being gone and Blu Ray being victorious? Well, HD DVDs and Blu Rays were in a media format war and DVDs were not really involved because these two formats were mainly for those who used HDTVs (High Definition Televisions). For many of us with the SDTV (Standard Definition Television), this is only really a big deal if you use a Playstation 3 or still want the better quality that DVD doesn’t have, except without the Maximum quality.

Why did HD DVDs lose?

Why did Mr. HD DVD lose? Well, it could be many reasons. But, a better explanation for those who don’t want to read those lengthy explanations is the following. Huge Hollywood studios aren’t supporting HD DVDs anymore, and large retail stores are also not supporting HD DVDs. They’ve moved on to the dark side. Well, the dark side with a blue light bulb lighting up the Press Conference of People on the Dark Side (PCPDS) room.

My HD DVD Player is Useless.. Or is it?

What can you do with your HD DVD players? Well, I’ve got some solid advice from an old friend. His name is Youtube. HD DVDs players are now just DVD players. Well, if you own HD DVDs and you decide you’re not going to be missing out on what you might call one of the biggest sales of the year, it can still be both.

Where do I get HD DVDs?

Some stores are still selling HD DVDs. It’s not like when Wall Mart announced the switch, they immediately removed every piece of evidence of HD DVDs ever being in their shelves. So, don’t miss some of those sales. Also, get all HD DVDs on Amazon for at least 30% off! So, if you refuse to have just a regular DVD player, go right ahead and buy buy buy, spend spend spend. Or, do something simple. Sell on Ebay, Craigslist, or Amazon. There could be those who want to buy your HD DVD players. If they didn’t hear the news and ask for a refund, simply decline. Who cares if you get a negative reception on your Ebay account. Not like you’ll be selling again.

Are Blu Ray Players Expensive?

Remember when the VCR came out and you were just all, “I want to buy some hit movies instead of waiting for Batman the Movie to get on TV or going to the theaters more than once”? But, was that too expensive? I have no clue. But, the simple answer is “Yes.” They’re about the price of an Xbox 360. Do the simple thing. Buy a Playstation 3. Playstation 3 plays Blu Ray discs and can also give you great games. What a deal!

Didn’t the Xbox 360 Have an HD DVD Player?

Yes. They did. You had to buy it seperate. That’s a good thing for Microsoft! That made the Xbox 360 a little less expensive. If you have one, you’re pretty much screwed. If it can play DVDs, then rejoice.

The truth of all of this is, DVDs aren’t going to die pretty soon.. probably. You probably don’t have anything to worry about. Huge motion picture studios won’t just immediately or probably even gradually switch to completely Blu Ray and probably what other thing exists. Don’t worry.

Thank you for reading my blog on HD DVDs and Blu Rays.

The Lonely Cafeteria Kid

September 17, 2007

I have decided, entries will be updated every Wednesday. Some times Tuesday. So if you go to my blog on Wednesday and see two entries, one from the day before, then I updated Tuesday. Also, on Fridays if I get questions on advice or something of the sort, I will answer them. If I have the email of the person who has asked the question, I will answer in the e-mail as well.

My first real entry is about the so-called “lonely cafeteria kid”, well that’s what I sometimes call them. Or never called them. Well, what I mean by “lonely cafeteria kid” is the kids who are alone and sits down in the cafeteria eating lunch by themselves, the ones who get no friends, the ones where some kids pretend they want to be their friend when they just want to cheer them up. Example:

Kristie: Hey Lonely Billy (billy is the lonely cafeteria kid of course.)

Billy: h-..hi.

[Kristie giggles]

Kristie: Okay.

Okay, I am a little of those “lonely caferia kids”, but actually, I think I have a solution to solve this as this may have solved this for me. Okay, so, you are a “lonely cafeteria kid”, right? You are always sad, you may be short or a little different from others, but not too different to be mentally disabled. If you are, then i’m not sure if this can help you because I have had little, or maybe a negitive amount of experience with them. But, I may have an entry someday. Anywho, if you think it is too late, wait until next year to do this, if not, do this. It may sound a little common for people to say, and you may say, “I’ve looked everywhere for advice on this and I found the same answer. This is one of them.” Just listen to me because I’ve extended it quite a bit.

Smile when you need to. Not all the time, unless you want people to stare at you and think you’ve had some work done. Unless you are always happy.

When someone talks to you, answer. Try to practice each time on your “hellos” so you won’t sound like you have a high pitched voice, and you’re scared saying, “H-h-hi? Oh gosh.”

Once you make a friend, make friends with their friends, and so on. You may have to work your way up slowly. But it’s worth it. Feeling friendship. How you will begin to make friends? By simply trying to talk to someone you were paired in in Science, Social Studies, whatever class. If you don’t have that, just try to talk to someone you don’t know who goes to your school. Example, you see someone outside skipping rope, although you may not skip rope this is an example, you ask them if you can join or, “Why are you playing like that” or something. Don’t be aggressive, though. Have your first impression a good first impression, so people won’t think that you are always mean and that you are suicidal, or some thing.

I hope this has helped. If you have any questions, email  and I would be happy to help. You may have to copy my email because it is long and hard to remember. If not, you can comment this blog entry and I will answer your questions on Friday.

Introduction

September 17, 2007

Today is the day that I gladly start Silent Bang on WordPress. At first, I started Silent Bang on to Blogspot, but was unhappy with it, which caused me to abandon it and look towards WordPress, a blogging system I have always enjoyed using since my days of owning websites called The World, The World God, and Crudstan. My goal for this blog is to just share my knowledge of computer programs, life, advice, politics, and more. It’s basically mixed.

I plan to have my first entry to be sharing to you about my experience with Ubuntu. Right now, I’m busy. But don’t worry, you can trust me to always have an entry. I will also tommorow tell you about the schedule of my blog uploading. I mean by that is, when I will update during the week. It could be everyday, wednesdays, every other day, etc. Have a great day.
